I just lost my job and in dire need of a work at home job.

A work at home mom (WAHM) is an entrepreneur who works from home and integrates parenting into her business activities.

Many WAHMs start a home-based businesses in order to care for their children while still creating an income. The desire to care for one’s own children, the incompatibility of a 9-to-5 work day with school hours or sick days, and the expense of childcare prompt many moms to change or leave their job in the workforce in order to be available to their children.

If this is you, then I congratulate you on your decision. Being there for your family and contributing to your household finances all at the same time is very rewarding. Don’t let anyone fool you into thinking its going to be easy. It can be simple but it won’t be easy. If it were easy almost every mom would be working from home.

It’s easy to become overwhelmed and lose focus. Losing focus will cause you to take no action. Action is very essential to moving from where you are now, to where you want to go.

I’m going to share with you 5 Tips For Staying Laser Focused When Starting Your Home Business.

1. Break down big tasks into manageable pieces:

If you have a large task at hand, it is always easier when you break it down into smaller manageable pieces. You’ll find it easier to focus because you won’t feel as overwhelmed. For example, ‘Register a business name’ can be broken down into: ‘Think of five business name ideas’, ‘Find out how to register a business name’, ‘Get registration form’ and so on.

2. Use and Keep A ‘To Do’ List:

Keep a “Things To Do” list and keep the items in priority order. Most people tend to do the things of a low priority first and never get around to the important tasks.

The best method for setting priorities on your list is once you have determined your major goals or objectives, is the A-B-C-D-E method. You place one of those letters in the margin before each of the tasks on your list before you begin.

“A” stands for “very important;” something you must do. There can be serious negative consequences if you don’t do it.

“B” stands for “important;” something you should do. This is not as important as your ‘A’ tasks. There are only minor negative consequences if it is not completed.

“C” stands for things that are “nice to do;” but which are not as important as ‘A’ or ‘B,’ tasks. There are no negative consequences for not completing it.

“D” stands for “delegate.” You can assign this task to someone else who can do the job instead of you.

“E” stands for “eliminate, whenever possible.” You should eliminate every single activity you possibly can, to free up your time.

When you use the A-B-C-D-E method, you can very easily sort out what is important and unimportant. This then will focus your time and attention on those items on your list that are most essential for you to do.

3. Schedule Your Time:

Every evening, decide on three to five tasks on your ‘to do’ list that you wish to accomplish the following day. Stay focused on these tasks and only move on to the next tasks on your list once these have been completed.

4. Set Goals:
There is nothing that will keep you more focused than setting goals and writing out your goals. See yourself exactly where you want to be in a month, six months and a year.

In a month’s time, do you want to have your advertising set up and have a fully functional home office? In three months time, how many clients or team members do you want? How much revenue do you want to generate in a six month’s time?

5. Learn To Say No:

To become a successful WAHM and creating your desired lifestyle, you will have to get comfortable at saying NO to all the people and distractions that would otherwise devour you. Successful WAHMs know how to say NO without feeling guilty.

While there are plenty of jobs out there that allow you to work from home, there is really nothing like a WAHM business to give you flexibility and earning potential. There are any number of reasons to start a business, but the main issue that women face is coming up with an idea. You might know that you want to work from home and start your own business, but what should you do?

In order to brainstorm effectively, you need to write things down, so get a pen and paper. You can brainstorm WAHM business ideas on your own, but you might find it helpful to work with someone else, a friend or even your husband. Make sure you choose someone positive, though, since a negative energy is not what you need at this point in time.

Start by writing down everything you enjoy doing. This can be anything from washing dishes to scrapbooking. Anything and everything that you enjoy should go on the list, but don’t edit anything just yet.

Now go through all the things you enjoy doing and pick just 3-5 of them. These should be things you enjoy more than most others. You’ll find that there are some hobbies that you simply prefer doing and these can be added to the list.

The next step is to come up with ideas for businesses that use each of your likes. For example, if you enjoy scrapbooking, you could teach it or even provide scrapbooking services for those who simply don’t have time to do this themselves. If you like to draw, you might do portraits for a living. There is always a way to turn what you enjoy into a business, though some will be better than others!

Once you have a list of money making ideas, it’s time to figure out which of the businesses you should concentrate on. This is going to take a little research, but it will help you make that final decision.

Look at the three to five business ideas that you have and see if any of them leap out at you. If so, start researching what you would need in order to get started and how much you could make by doing that as a living.

In some cases, you will need to discard an idea because it isn’t possible to start right now. If you have a baby and want to do silver jewelry, for example, you might not be able to because of the fumes involved. Other WAHM business ideas might be too expensive to start up.

If none of the business ideas appeals, go back to your original list and go through to pick out more activities that you can work on and brainstorm. Eventually you will have a feasible WAHM business idea that you can run with.

If you’re looking for wahm opportunities, chances are you’ve already found out that there are a lot of scams out there aimed directly at work at home moms. Fortunately, there are still places where you can find great jobs, you just need some common sense.

The first thing to keep in mind is that wahm opportunities abound. They aren’t nearly as scarce as everyone seems to think, so don’t even think about clicking on emails for fractions of a penny. As a mom, you want to provide for your family and that is going to take more than a few cents an hour.

There are a number of different jobs, so you need to decide what you’re looking for, first. If you want to be a writer, then you’ll be looking at writing blogs to provide you with some good leads for writing. Are you more interested in graphic arts? Then that’s the type of website you’ll be looking at.

Stay away from spammy sites. You’ll know them when you see them. These are the ones with flashing ads all over the site, the over exuberant “You HAVE to try this program, it’s so awesome!” and everything else you can imagine that would scream at you to run away. It can be tempting when they lure you in with promises of earning $500 a week, but unfortunately, these sites are not a good place to start looking for wahm opportunities.

Instead, stick to blogs and websites that are well laid out and are recommended by others. There are many, many wahm blogs out there that have nothing useful on them, but if you find one that you like, you should definitely consider reading it on a regular basis. These will often give you links to opportunities that are ideal for wahms.

Don’t assume that just because it’s another work at home mom, she will steer you in the right direction. Unfortunately, many moms are so desperate to earn that they will gladly sell out their fellow wahms to earn a few dollars. Often they are the ones behind spam sites, so be careful.

There are some great wahm opportunities out there, but you have to know where to look. When you find a blog for work at home moms that is worth reading and trustworthy, keep reading it to find out what they recommend, since these are the moms that will be able to help you out.
